Within a few weeks after the accident, you will receive a call from an adjuster, who works for the other driver’s insurance company. The adjuster is paid by the insurance company to save the insurance company money. If fair value for your injuries is $50,000.00 the adjuster can convince you to settle for $25,000.00, this is how adjusters get promoted.
Never let the adjuster record your conversation. The adjuster will ask questions which help the insurance company. The recorded statement will never benefit you. If the adjuster tells you he/she needs to record your statement to investigate the accident, you are being set up.
My clients tell me they only want to be fair. The adjuster is not paid to be fair. Fairness is not an adjuster’s job. Again, an insurance adjusters only job is to save his/her employer money. Fairness has nothing to do with it.
When YOUR insurance company calls you, you have certain responsibilities under YOUR insurance policy.
I will discuss your responsibilities in my next blog.
